Dynamic behaviour of laterally loaded pultruted composite beams

چکیده

This paper discusses a detailed study carried out on vibration characteristics of transversely loaded pultruted composite beams. A considerable discrepancy was noticed in the measured vibration of the transversely loaded beam and the calculated natural frequencies of the beam using Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. It has been observed that the natural frequencies of the beam were increased after lateral loading. A simplified mathematical model was derived for the equation of motion in order to determine the vibration characteristics of the loaded beam. The discontinuities introduced at the loading points were modelled as a combination of translational and torsional springs. The predictions of the model have demonstrated that it has sufficiently captured the dynamic behaviour of a laterally loaded beam. A comparison of model prediction and the experimental results is presented.

OPTIMAL SHAKEDOWN ANALYSIS OF LATERALLY LOADED PILE WITH LIMITED RESIDUAL STRAIN ENERGY

For application of the plastic analysis and design methods the control of the plastic behaviour of the structures is an important requirement. In this study, the complementary strain energy of the residual forces is considered as an overall measure of the plastic performance of the structure. Shakedown theorem for the analysis of the plastic behaviour of the laterally loaded piles is developed ...

Generality of Using Correctors to Predict the Behaviour of Masonry Wall Panels

The highly composite and anisotropic nature of masonry, which is a result of the variation in the properties of the masonry constituents, makes it very difficult to find an accurate material model to predict its behaviour satisfactorily. Current research by the authors has focused more closely on the behaviour of laterally loaded masonry wall panels using model updating techniques supported by ...

Experimental Investigation of the Dynamic Characteristics of Laminated Composite Beams

The laminated composite beams are basic structural components used in a variety of engineering structures such as airplane wings, helicopter blades and turbine blades as well as many others in the aerospace, mechanical, and civil industries. An important element in the dynamic analysis of composite beams is the computation of their natural frequencies and mode shapes. This is important because ...

Numerical Calibration of Mechanical Behaviour of Composite Shell

Composite shell linings consist of primary and secondary sprayed concrete linings separated by a layer of spray-applied waterproofing membrane. In order to design such a lining configuration, a calibrated numerical simulation approach is needed and the impact of interface properties on the composite mechanical behaviour should be understood. A programme of laboratory tests was carried out on be...
